Networking offers so many options that it’s hard to know where to focus. You have attended workshops, seminars and conferences to chit-chat and hand out business cards. You have joined traditional networking business groups to attract new business and develop long-term relationships around breakfast, lunch and/or dinner meetings. You used social networking sites to connect with various groups you lost touch with from college to former colleagues.
Now that you have mastered these options you must find new ways to promote your business interests and get noticed. Why not use “social bookmarking” for networking your business?
Before you can understand how to use it for networking you must understand what it is and how it works.
What it is?
Favorites or “links” you want to remember and/or share organized and stored (bookmarked) on a website.
How it works?
Keywords (called a tag) chosen by you describing the favorite or “link”.
So instead of saving your bookmarks on your PC in folders you can save them online. As an added benefit, using this technology allows you to access the favorites from any computer and add bookmarks from anywhere.
One of the most popular social bookmarking websites is delicious, more commonly seen by its web address del.icio.us.
What is del.icio.us?
del.icio.us is a collection of favorites – yours and everyone else’s. You can use to keep, share and discover links to your favorite articles, blogs, music, reviews, recipes, and more.
These favorites are usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains.
del.icio.us lets users see others’ link collections. If a user finds someone’s list compelling, she can subscribe to it then be notified when more bookmarks are added to it. This process combines technology, networking, relationship building, grass-roots marketing, and follow up.
What can it be used for?
Here are examples of networking you can do with saving bookmarks on del.icio.us:
- Businesses – create a tag for your business, partners and affiliates.
- Products and Services– find existing tags with non-competing and competing products and services then add yours.
Make the “net” Work, be creative, you must take action to get noticed.
